The Seychelles - Shores of Paradise

The Seychelles by Travel & treasures - Kempinski Seychelles Baie Lazare Mahé Island Victoria

Imagine a land between the seas and the sky so enchanting and beautiful, you’ll never want to leave. The 115 idyllic islands emerge from tropical blues of the vast Indian Ocean right below the equator. Some islands are majestic and formed of granite rocks while others are small dots of coral islands protected by turquoise lagoons. The island nation offers nature of outstanding  beauty, every traveler can’t help but appreciate its teeming wildlife and paradise beaches. Here, you will find it all- mountains, jungles, beaches, reefs, lakes, lagoons, fields and cliffs, there’s something magical about the boulder-dotted coastlines of the Seychelles Islands and a reason they call the Seychelles “paradise on earth,” - you’ll see why as soon as you arrive.

Located off the east coast of Kenya, the Seychelles Islands originate from volcanic activity and consist in large parts of polished granite rocks, which have been polished by erosion for millions of years. They make up the famous smooth boulder sceneries with dreamy lagoons we know from post cards. Most of the islands have protected areas of marine sanctuaries and UNESCO-listed nature reserves such as the Vallee de Mai where the famous Coco de Mer can be found growing in ancient forests. This unique habitat is home to endemic species like the giant Aldabra tortoise and many rare flora species. You can spend days hiking through the lush jungles spotting wildlife or swim underneath a waterfall, but also relax on the picture-perfect beaches. The country’s tropical underwater world attracts rate marine life such as manta rays and whale sharks, so even divers and snorkelers will get their money’s worth. Due to the island state’s equatorial location, the country enjoys a hot and humid climate, with temperatures between 25-32 degrees almost constantly throughout the year.

With year-round sunshine, there really isn’t a bad time to visit the Seychelles. For the best weather, you’ll want to visit between April to May and October through November. A trip during these months means you’ll experience mild weather perfect for sunbathing, wildlife watching, and scuba diving. I went in August, during the summer from June through September you’ll experience versatile weather but still sunny and beautiful.  If you’re planning a summertime visit, you’ll want to book your accommodations in advance as hotels and guest houses can get quite busy. Are you ready to discover the archipelago for yourself?
